Outage map questions
What is this outage map?
It is a live map of the problems people reported on this site in the last 24 hours, across every service we track: phone carriers, internet providers, power companies, apps, games and websites. Each US state is coloured by how many reports came from there, and the lists show the top regions, cities and services.
Is this the official outage map of my provider?
No. It shows user reports only. Phone carriers, internet providers and power companies keep their own outage maps from their network data, and each service page here links to the official map or status page when there is one. A report here means someone had a problem, not that the company has confirmed an outage.
Is there an outage near me right now?
Look at your state on the map and at the top cities list. If many people near you report the same service in the last hour, an outage in your area is likely. If you see no reports, the problem may be with your own device, account or home equipment, so open the page for your provider and follow the steps there.
How do you know where reports come from?
From the approximate location of the connection that sent the report, as your network provider registers it. We never ask for or store an exact location or address. Mobile connections are sometimes placed in a nearby city or state, so treat the map as a rough picture.
Why is my city not on the outage map?
For privacy a city is listed only once at least 5 people there have reported problems in the last 24 hours. Below that, reports count toward their state or region only.
How often does the outage map update?
The page loads the latest reports when you open it and refreshes every few minutes while you are looking at it. The counts cover a rolling 24 hours, so old reports drop off on their own.
Why does a state have reports when nothing is down?
A few reports a day are normal for big services: someone always has a dead modem, an unpaid bill or a phone in a basement. An outage usually shows as a sudden burst of reports for one service from one area. Compare the last hour with the 24 hour total.
How do I report an outage?
Open the page for the service that is not working and tap the problem you have, such as no signal, no internet or no power. Reports are anonymous and appear on the map within a minute or two.
Is there a power outage map here?
Yes. The power outage map lists power companies with recent reports from their customers and links to each company's own official outage map, which shows the outages the utility knows about.
Is there a nationwide internet outage right now?
Check the internet outage today page: it puts the status of the big internet infrastructure providers, the major platforms and the reports for every internet provider and carrier on one page, with an honest verdict.
