Top regions

  1. No reports in the last 24 hours.

Top cities

  1. No city has 5 or more reports.

For privacy a city is listed only once 5 or more people there have reported in 24 hours.

Map of user reports in the last 24 hours, not Consumers Energy's official outage map. Each report is one visitor to this site saying something is not working, placed by the approximate location of their connection. A coloured state means people there reported problems, not that an outage is confirmed.

What to do if Consumers Energy is not working

  1. Check whether it is only your home: look at your neighbours' lights and the street lights. If only your home is dark, check your breaker panel or fuse box for a tripped breaker or blown fuse.
  2. If the street is dark too, report it to Consumers Energy through its official outage map, app or outage phone line. That is what sends a crew; a report on this site helps your neighbours but does not reach Consumers Energy.
  3. Stay well away from fallen or sagging power lines, at least 30 feet, and treat every line as live. Call 911 and Consumers Energy right away.
  4. Unplug computers, TVs and other sensitive electronics so a power surge cannot damage them when the power comes back. Leave one light switched on so you notice when it does.
  5. Keep the fridge and freezer doors closed. A closed fridge keeps food cold for about 4 hours, a full freezer for about 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full).
  6. Run a generator outdoors only, at least 20 feet from doors and windows, never in a garage or basement: its exhaust can kill with carbon monoxide. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet.
  7. If someone in your home relies on powered medical equipment and the outage will last, contact your local emergency services or go to a place with power. In an emergency, call 911.

Consumers Energy outage questions

Is there a Consumers Energy power outage right now?

We cannot see Consumers Energy's power grid, so this page cannot tell you whether the power is on at your address. It shows reports from people in Michigan over the last 24 hours, by area, and links to Consumers Energy's official outage map (https://www.consumersenergy.com/outagemap), which shows the outages Consumers Energy knows about and when it expects power back.

What does the status at the top of this page mean?

It only tells you whether Consumers Energy's official outage map answers our checks. "Up" means the map is loading, not that your power is on. During big storms the map can be slow or fail because so many people check it at once; then the reports on this page are the next best guide.

How do I report a Consumers Energy power outage?

Report it to Consumers Energy directly, through its outage map, app, website or outage phone line, so a crew is sent. Reporting it here lets people near you see they are not alone, but it does not reach Consumers Energy.

Which areas does Consumers Energy serve?

Consumers Energy supplies electricity in Michigan. Not every part of the state is covered: if you are not sure who supplies your power, look at your electricity bill.

Why is my power out when the Consumers Energy outage map shows nothing?

Outage maps refresh every few minutes and only show outages the utility has detected or been told about. A single home or one transformer may not appear until someone reports it, so check your breakers, then report it even if the map is clear.

Is my food safe after a power outage?

A closed fridge keeps food safe for about 4 hours. A full freezer holds its temperature for about 48 hours, a half-full one for about 24. Throw away perishable food like meat, milk and leftovers that has been above 40°F (4°C) for more than 2 hours. When in doubt, throw it out.
