Testing your connection…

Is your Wi-Fi up or down?

Wi-Fi up but not working?

  1. Restart the router: unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and give it two minutes.
  2. Move closer to the router, or test with a cable. If a cable is much faster, the problem is the Wi-Fi signal, not your internet.
  3. Check other devices. If none of them work, it is the router or your provider; if only one fails, it is that device.
  4. Look up your provider's outage status below: when many people report problems at once, it is on their side.
  5. If one website will not load but the speed test is fine, that site may be down: check any website.

Is your internet provider down?

Wi-Fi speed questions

Is my Wi-Fi down or is it my internet?

If this test cannot reach the internet at all, check whether other devices on the same Wi-Fi are online. If none are, restart the router; if the router lights show no internet, it is your provider. If only one device is offline, it is that device or its Wi-Fi connection.

What is a good Wi-Fi speed?

For one person browsing and streaming HD video, 25 Mbps is enough. 4K streaming needs about 25 Mbps per stream, video calls about 3 to 5 Mbps each, and a family with several people online at once is comfortable with 100 Mbps or more. For gaming, low latency and jitter matter more than speed.

Why is my Wi-Fi slow?

The usual causes: distance or walls between you and the router, many devices sharing the connection, an old router, interference on a busy 2.4 GHz channel, or a problem at your internet provider. Test again close to the router, or with a cable, to tell Wi-Fi problems from internet problems.

What do latency and jitter mean?

Latency (ping) is how long a message takes to reach the server and come back, in milliseconds: under 30 ms is great, over 100 ms feels laggy in games and calls. Jitter is how much that time varies; high jitter makes calls choppy. Loaded latency is the latency while the connection is busy, and a big jump there is called bufferbloat.

Where does this speed test run?

It measures your connection against Cloudflare's network, which has servers in hundreds of cities, so the test uses a server close to you. The test data goes to Cloudflare's speed test service; this site does not store your results.

Speed test by Cloudflare's open source speed test engine, measured against Cloudflare's network. We do not store your results.
