What to do if NBN is not working

  1. Unplug your modem and router, wait 30 seconds, plug the modem in first, then the router after 2 minutes.
  2. Check the lights on the modem: a red or blinking "online" or internet light usually means no connection from the provider.
  3. Connect a computer directly to the router with a cable to rule out a Wi-Fi problem.
  4. NBN does not sell internet to you directly: your internet provider does. Check your provider's app or outage page, and NBN's own network status checker (linked on this page) for known outages at your address.
  5. Check cables and splitters, especially after storms or building work.
  6. If neighbours have no internet either, it is an outage in your area. Note the time it started: many providers give a credit for long outages if you ask.

Why is my NBN internet not working?

NBN runs the network, but your internet provider handles your connection. The usual causes are an outage on the network in your area, a problem at your provider, a modem or router that needs restarting, or a damaged cable. Restart the modem first, then check with your provider.
