Is NBN down? › Report an outage
How to report an NBN outage
You cannot report an outage to nbn itself. nbn is a wholesaler: its contact page tells households to contact their phone and internet provider about a loss of connection, including outages and dropouts. Check nbn's network status checker for your address first, then contact your provider.

Step by step
- Check it is not just you. Our live NBN page shows reports from other NBN customers in Australia in the last 24 hours, and the outage map shows where they are.
- Check NBN's official network status checker with your address, to see if NBN already knows about a problem near you.
- Restart your modem or router. If you have an nbn connection box, check that it is on and its lights are normal.
- If nbn's checker shows no outage at your address and your service still does not work, contact your internet provider. nbn says to do exactly that, and your provider raises the fault with nbn for you.
- Report it on our NBN page too, so people near you can see it is not just them.
When will it be fixed?
Only nbn and your provider know. nbn's network status checker shows known outages at your address, and your provider can tell you what it has heard from nbn. Our live NBN page shows whether reports from other users are still coming in.
Tell others it is not just them
A report on our page does not reach NBN, but it shows other NBN customers nearby what is happening. Reports are anonymous.

How can I get online during an NBN outage?
Use your phone's mobile data, or turn on its hotspot to connect a laptop. If you have Wi-Fi calling on your phone, turn it off while your home internet is down so calls go over the mobile network.
Does nbn have an outage phone number?
No. The only phone number on nbn's contact page, 1800 687 626, is its Health and Safety line for health and safety concerns, people in vulnerable circumstances and accessibility needs. For outages, nbn tells you to contact your phone and internet provider.
What should I do if there's an nbn outage?
Check nbn's network status checker at https://www.nbnco.com.au/support/network-status with your address. If it lists an outage, nbn already knows about it and your provider can tell you more. If it shows nothing and your service still does not work, restart your modem, then contact your internet provider. nbn lists every provider's contact details on its website.
Can I get compensation for an nbn outage?
nbn does not deal with households directly, so any credit or compensation comes from your internet provider. Ask your provider about its outage policy. The Customer Service Guarantee covers home phone voice faults only, not internet.
