Can I get a credit or reimbursement for a National Grid power outage?

In New York, National Grid says residential customers out more than 72 consecutive hours due to a storm or incident automatically get a $25 bill credit for each further 24-hour period, and may claim spoiled food (up to $540 with verifiable proof, up to $235 with an itemized list only) and prescription medicine (actual loss, with proof) under Public Service Law 73, filed within 14 days of the 72-hour mark. Outside that program, its general claims policy says it reimburses losses it caused through its actions or negligence but not those induced by wind, ice, lightning, floods, storms or other causes beyond its control. When will it be fixed?

For outages it knows about, National Grid's outage map and app usually show an estimated restoration time, which can change as crews find the cause, and during big storms estimates can take hours to appear.
