Step by step

  1. Check it is not just you. Our live DTE page shows reports from other people in Michigan in the last 24 hours, and the outage map shows where they are.
  2. Check DTE's official outage map, to see if DTE already knows about a problem near you and when it expects power back.
  3. Report it to DTE:
  4. Unplug sensitive electronics, keep the fridge and freezer closed, and run a generator outdoors only, far from doors and windows.
  5. Report it on our DTE page too, so people near you can see it is not just them.

Can I get a credit or reimbursement for a DTE power outage?

DTE says it automatically applies a bill credit, with no request needed, when its investigation finds an outage lasted more than 16 hours (event affecting 1% or less of customers), more than 48 hours (1% to under 10%), more than 96 hours under catastrophic conditions, or when a customer has six outages in 12 months. The credit is $42 for outages from Oct. 1, 2025 to Sept. 30, 2026 and $44 for outages after Oct. 1, 2026, with an additional credit for every 24 hours the outage continues once it qualifies. Separately, customers who believe DTE damaged their property can submit a damage claim form, and DTE says a claim is not a guarantee of payment. Source

When will it be fixed?

Only DTE knows. For outages it knows about, DTE's outage map and app usually show an estimated restoration time, which can change as crews find the cause, and during big storms estimates can take hours to appear. Our live DTE page shows whether people near you are still reporting the outage.

Tell others it is not just them

A report on our page does not reach DTE, but it shows other people nearby what is happening. Reports are anonymous.
