Can I get a credit or reimbursement for an Ameren power outage?
Ameren Illinois says Section 16-125(e) and (f) of the Illinois Public Utilities Act may allow payment for actual damages, including food spoilage, from continuous outages of four hours or more that affect more than 0.8% of its customers (about 9,900), or from surges affecting that many. It may not pay when the cause is unpreventable weather, tampering, civil unrest, animals, or a non-Ameren individual, and claims go by mail on its claim form. Ameren says outage claims are not currently available for Missouri customers. Source
When will it be fixed?
Only Ameren knows. For outages it knows about, Ameren's outage map and app usually show an estimated restoration time, which can change as crews find the cause, and during big storms estimates can take hours to appear.
