What to do if Twelve Labs is not working

  1. Check the status card at the top of this page. If Twelve Labs reports an incident, the errors are on their side.
  2. Retry failed requests with exponential backoff (for example 1, 2, 4, 8 seconds, with some random jitter). Short 500, 502, 503 and 529 errors often clear within minutes.
  3. A 429 error means a rate limit or quota, not an outage: check your usage limits and tier, and slow down or batch requests.
  4. A 401 or 403 error usually means the API key is wrong, revoked or out of credit: check the key and your billing page.
  5. Check the model name: retired or renamed models return errors that look like an outage.
  6. Keep a fallback: route to another provider or model while Twelve Labs is down (see the alternatives below), or use a router that switches automatically.
