What to do if Runway API is not working

  2. Retry failed requests with exponential backoff (for example 1, 2, 4, 8 seconds, with some random jitter). Short 500, 502, 503 and 529 errors often clear within minutes.
  3. A 429 error means a rate limit or quota, not an outage: check your usage limits and tier, and slow down or batch requests.
  4. A 401 or 403 error usually means the API key is wrong, revoked or out of credit: check the key and your billing page.
  5. Check the model name: retired or renamed models return errors that look like an outage.
  6. Keep a fallback: route to another provider or model while Runway API is down (see the alternatives below), or use a router that switches automatically.
